I was going to post this in response to the Korean thread in our new Korean area, but decided it is good for a general discussion.
Reasons for the Mikocom VIP is covered in the VIP Guide: http://r18.eroan.xyz/?mikocom/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=21038
There is a distinct difference between
1. Being the first to share -> Someone need to do it
2. Re-sharing what other people have shared. -> Anyone can do it
If other people choose to buy and share first, it is their choice.
May be that they did not consider the effect on the creators.
May be it is for the purpose of promoting their site (but that only work for already relatively popular sites)
May be the user want to be famous online.
Sharing as fast as possible on a small, less popular site, has negative effect, which 2DJGAME already had experience around 2006 with another Chinese sharing site. People naturally go to sites which are easier to access, or have more content to download. We post in another sites too, which make our ID popular, but after all it is someone else's site.
All things considered, for us 2DJGAME/Mikocom, rushing to post first has no benefits: we lose traffic, we earn less (because filehost only count once a day), more work load and we have no incentive for members to contribute. Holding back releases help us AND help the creators. It helps you too, because you don't need to go elsewhere searching for gems in junks.
We have proved many things:
1. Sites that bragged about having many servers costing tens of thousands of USD a month, does not generate contents themselves, such as a certain gallery.
2. Private yet open to new member is possible with low leak rate, given an appropriate delivery and control method.
3. Users are fine with games being late for weeks or even months. There is no pressure to release games quickly, other than due to the ego of some uploaders.
4. Most users download games for the sake of downloading something. This is based on factual data of game download count vs crack download count.
We have done many things that no one else have done
1. Achieve full own bought coverage of all new games in a month. Yet some uploaders are unhappy that we appear to control everything, and start uploading again.
2. Maintain a huge archive of Japanese content (~120TB FTP including some redundant copies, where one of the copy is open for pubic purchase).
3. Being a collective release group which cover Game, CG and Cracking altogether. We are the only CG rip group with several big name CG ripping tool creators.
If anyone have a better system, they're free to become our competitor and run their own, as long as they're not taking content from our VIP.
Or you can suggest improvements to us. |
